“Let me live, love, and say it well in good sentences.”
~Sylvia Plath~
Dear WWW Member—
Thanks to all the living, loving, writing Women Who Write. The pandemic has brought new meaning to our tag line—A Place. A Space. A Voice. Zoom has become our place and space, which allowed us to hear others’ voices, if not their shoes. These “visits” have helped this writer experience a near-normal life now and then.
We hope this next meeting— Tuesday, June 2, 2020—will be our last virtual gathering. When we share an actual room, you can be sure we’ll comply with health department recommendations.
HERE IS WHAT IS GOING ON WITH WWW!
June is membership renewal month.
To streamline dues collection, leadership has decided to collect membership dues each June. Here is how the process works. Persons who joined or renewed January through May 2020 will pay dues in June 2021. Persons who joined or renewed June through December 2019, will pay dues in June 2020. We realize some will benefit from this process, and others will pay a bit extra. Please let us know if you want to receive a pro-rated refund of dues. Otherwise, we’ll consider the surplus a donation!
Join WWW at the Valaterra Retreat Center in Lagrange, KY on July 18th 9 AM to 6 PM. Overnight option available.
The retreat begins with a visiting writer who will inspire us to invent new work, banish self-doubt, and use new tools to enhance our writing lives. Participants will then enjoy quiet time to write without distraction, meet with peers to discuss works-in-progress, stretch out to read and nap, or hike the meadow and lane. We’ll share a pot-luck lunch. At the end of our day, we’ll enjoy an open mic reading (without the microphone).
Snacks and beverages are provided by Women Who Write. Each participant will contribute potluck dishes for lunch. No alcohol permitted at this event, except for persons who choose to spend the night on Friday. Cost per member is $20. Cost per non-member is $35. Overnight is an additional $75.
Register for the Valaterra retreat today!
Join us for our next meeting, Tuesday, June 2 through the Zoom video conferencing platform 6:30 to 8 PM.
As soon as we’re all together, in Brady Bunch gallery view, we’ll begin our conversation.
- Share our experiences of the good, the difficult, the weird of pandemic experiences.
- Respond to a writing prompt, so we can connect with the writing process and start something new.
- Contribute a manuscript for peer critique. We’ll look at up to five works-in-progress (900 words maximum). Writers, please send your manuscript to be screen-shared while you read. Please send poetry or prose, as an attachment, to by noon, June 2. An earlier submission will ensure your participation. Visitors considering membership in WWW are welcome to submit their work.

We remember WWW founder Carridder “Rita” Jones.
From an article by Ellen Birkett Morris in the Kentucky Foundation for Women newsletter—”Rita wasn’t concerned with her own success. She wanted to help others succeed. ‘Once she found her literary groove back in the early 90’s, she took off slowly yet methodically towards a path of helping to define sacred spaces where Kentucky women writers could create, grow and follow a trajectory of social change through the arts,’ said Mary E. Jefferson, a Louisville writer, educator and business consultant from Appalachia.
One such space was Women Who Write, co-founded in May 1992 by Rita and the U of L Women’s Center. WWW is a non-profit organization for women writers in Louisville with the goal of welcoming, educating and supporting all women who aspire to write and being the ‘go-to’ place for women writers.”
We hope to honor Ms. Jones with an organization that continues to support writers in their journeys.
Wishing you real, not virtual, peace. Write forward!
The Leadership Team,
Kimberly Crum, Pam LaFollette, Terri Lindsey, Alisa Childress, Melony Dixon
